The COVID-19 vaccine which was launched on 16th January, 2021 was in its first phase given to healthcare and frontline workers. Senior citizens over 60 years of age and individuals above 45 years with comorbid conditions were the second group to receive COVID-19 vaccine. Registration Process
The registration process of COVID vaccination which are available from notified government and private health facilities known as COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs) can be done on the Co-WIN Portal (Cowin.gov.in) or on the Aarogya Setu app.
Since the vaccination centres have limited on-the-spot registration facilities, it is mandatory for people in the age group of 18 to 44 years to first register and book an appointment online. However, people above 45 years age can choose to either register online or directly walk-in to the CVC. However, it is recommended to book an appointment online to avoid any inconvenience and have a hassle-free experience.
The registration process of COVID vaccination is an easy process wherein one mobile number can be used to register four people without any registration charges. The only requirement is that of a valid ID proof while registering. Once registered, a confirmation SMS is sent on the registered mobile number. One can also download the appointment slip on their smartphone or can choose to print it. The ID proof used during the registration process and the appointment slip (digital or hard copy) should be carried at the CVC for verification.
Like the registration process, the rescheduling process is also very simple. One just needs to click on the reschedule tab to choose a different time or date of convenience, in case they missed the current schedule for any reason.
Registration for the Second Dose
Timeline for the administration of the second dose is determined by the vaccine one takes in the first instance. The recommended interval for administering the second dose of COVAXIN is 4 to 6 weeks whereas for COVISHIELD is 4 to 8 weeks (6 to 8 weeks offers the highest efficacy).
Fresh registration needs to be done for the second dose depending on the vaccine that was taken earlier. The COWIN portal helps in providing details of a centre where the same vaccine as the first dose (COVAXIN or COVISHIELD) can be retaken. One needs to carry the vaccination certificate that was issued after the first dose.
