Interpretation

D-dimer is protein released into the blood once the blood clot dissolves. Elevated levels often indicate increased production of clots. A clot can get clogged in heart or lung or brain and lead life threatening conditions. It has been observed that clotting mechanism is often altered in COVID-19 infections. Similarly, elevated IL-6 may indicate towards severe infection, inflammation and potential organ failure. COVID-19 patients must seek immediate medical help if they experience any sudden chest pain or swelling or tenderness.
