TB tests include:
- Mantoux (PPD) Skin Test – Detects past exposure but may give false positives.
- Interferon Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) – Blood tests like QuantiFERON-TB Gold detect active and latent TB.
- Sputum Culture & Smear Test – Confirms active TB in the lungs.
- Chest X-ray/CT Scan – Helps detect lung damage due to TB.
Chest CT/X-ray scan: Aids in identifying TB-related lung damage.
Skin tests are not as reliable as IGRA testing (QuantiFERON).
Sputum tests provide highly accurate confirmation of active tuberculosis.
Indeed, latent TB infections (LTBI) can result in a positive skin or blood test but do not cause symptoms.
