This culture detects the presence of acid-fast bacilli (AFB), including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, using an automated system like MGIT.
It confirms active TB infection and allows for susceptibility testing to guide therapy.
Sputum or other samples are inoculated into a liquid culture medium and monitored in the Actec system for growth.
