Arthritis Panel (Rheumatoid Arthritis Panel)
Overview of Arthritis Panel (Rheumatoid Arthritis Panel) in Chandigarh
The Arthritis Panel is a group of blood tests used to diagnose and differentiate various forms of arthritis and autoimmune rheumatic diseases that cause joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and inflammation. Since arthritis includes over 100 conditions with different causes and treatments, laboratory testing helps identify the underlying disease and guide management.
Key Components:
● Rheumatoid Factor (RF): An autoantibody commonly associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), present in about 70–80% of cases, though it may also be elevated in other autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.
● Anti-CCP (Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide) Antibodies (ACPA): The most specific blood marker for Rheumatoid Arthritis, with >95% specificity. It may appear years before symptoms and predicts more aggressive, erosive disease.
● ANA (Antinuclear Antibody): A screening test for autoimmune diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic sclerosis, mixed connective tissue disease, and inflammatory myopathies. Results are reported as a titre and pattern, which provide additional diagnostic clues.
Who should get this test done?
This test is recommended for individuals with:
● Persistent joint pain, swelling, redness, or prolonged morning stiffness.
● A family history of autoimmune arthritis or connective tissue disorders.
● Recurrent acute joint attacks suggestive of gout.
● Joint symptoms accompanied by fatigue, fever, rash, hair loss, mouth ulcers, or dry eyes/mouth.
● Joint pain following a recent streptococcal infection.
Why consider this test?
This test:
● Helps diagnose and differentiate various types of arthritis and rheumatologic diseases.
● Enables early detection and treatment, helping prevent irreversible joint damage.
● Identifies systemic autoimmune diseases that commonly present with joint symptoms.
● Monitors treatment response and disease progression over time.
● Investigates unexplained joint pain, swelling, stiffness, or fatigue to determine an inflammatory or autoimmune cause.
More Information
Arthritis panel results must be interpreted alongside clinical findings and imaging studies; no single test can confirm a diagnosis. Rheumatoid Factor (RF) may be positive in healthy individuals and other diseases; combining it with Anti-CCP improves diagnostic accuracy for rheumatoid arthritis. ANA can also be positive in healthy people and often requires follow-up testing with more specific autoantibodies. In gout, serum uric acid may be normal during an acute attack, making clinical assessment and sometimes joint fluid analysis necessary. Early diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis is crucial to prevent irreversible joint damage and disability. Modern treatments, including biologic therapies and targeted DMARDs, are most effective when started early, highlighting the importance of timely testing.
