About the test :

The stool  : Ova and Parasite test is used to detect parasites and their eggs (ova) in a stool sample. It is typically ordered when a healthcare provider suspects an intestinal parasitic infection.

  • To detect intestinal parasites (such as Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica, Entamoeba dispar, Strongyloides, etc.) and their eggs in the stool.
  • It helps diagnose conditions like giardiasis, amebiasis, cryptosporidiosis, hookworm, roundworm, and other parasitic infections.

  • Positive result: The presence of parasitic eggs, larvae, or active forms in the stool indicates an infection.
  • Negative result: No parasites or their eggs were found. However, this doesn’t always rule out a parasitic infection, as eggs or parasites may not be present in the sample or may not be shed consistently.
