Total IgM

The IgM test measures Immunoglobulin M (IgM) levels in the blood, which are the first antibodies produced in response to infections. It is used to diagnose acute or recent infections.

Individuals with symptoms of infections or autoimmune diseases or those suspected of having immunodeficiency should take this test.

A blood sample is collected and analyzed using immunoassays to measure IgM levels.

High IgM levels indicate an ongoing infection, while low levels may suggest an immune system deficiency.

Further diagnostic tests may be necessary to identify the cause of abnormal IgM levels and determine the appropriate treatment.
