Multiple Myeloma Panel Fish Test in Guwahati Overview

What is Multiple Myeloma Panel by FISH test?

Multiple Myeloma Panel by FISH test is used to detect chromosomal abnormalities commonly associated with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. This panel uses fluorescent probes to identify specific genetic translocations, deletions, or duplications that are often present in plasma cells in patients with multiple myeloma.

This panel includes 5 key parameters such as t(4;14), t(11;14), t(14;16), del(13q) and del(17p)

Why consider Multiple Myeloma Panel by FISH test?

  • This test provides crucial genetic information that helps oncologists determine the aggressiveness of the disease.
  • Certain chromosomal abnormalities detected by the FISH panel, such as del(17p), are associated with high-risk disease and may prompt more aggressive or targeted treatment plans.
  • The test also assists in identifying patients who may benefit from novel therapies or enrollment in clinical trials. Overall, it plays an essential role in risk stratification and individualized treatment planning.

Who should get this Multiple Myeloma Panel by FISH test?

  • Newly diagnosed multiple myeloma to establish cytogenetic risk category as part of standard diagnostic workup.
  • Smoldering myeloma or relapsed/refractory myeloma when risk reassessment may influence treatment choices or clinical trial eligibility.
  • Related plasma cell disorders (e.g., plasmacytoma) when marrow involvement is sufficient and cytogenetic risk may inform clinical decisions.

More Information

Other Names: Myeloma FISH panel, Plasma cell myeloma FISH panel, Multiple myeloma FISH panel, Myeloma risk stratification panel

Multiple Myeloma (MM) belongs to a family of neoplasms involving clonal expansion of immunoglobulin secreting B-cells, often with bone marrow involvement, resulting in anemia and leukopenia.  Additionally, bone lesions are often seen.  This FISH panel is designed to detect the most common, and/or prognostically significant abnormalities in Multiple Myeloma and related plasma cell neoplasms. Multiple myeloma arises from clonal plasma cells that accumulate in bone marrow and produce a monoclonal immunoglobulin (M-protein) or free light chains that can harm organs.
