Folic Acid

Folic acid or folate test measures the amount of Folic Acid in the blood. The body needs folate for normal growth and production of Blood Cells (red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC), and platelets).

Folic acid deficiency can lead to neural tube defects in developing fetuses and megaloblastic anemia in adults. In certain cases, elevated levels of folate can indicate vitamin B12 deficiency or liver disease.
