Who should undergo this test?
This test is recommended for:
Patients with confirmed tuberculosis (TB) who require drug susceptibility testing (DST).
Patients with multi-drug resistant (MDR) or extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB.
Individuals not responding to first-line TB treatment.
How is the test performed?
A sputum or other relevant sample is cultured in the MGIT 960 system, and the growth of the mycobacteria is monitored in the presence of 10 anti-tubercular drugs to assess drug resistance.
What do the results indicate?
Resistant: The mycobacteria continue to grow despite the presence of the drug, indicating resistance.
Susceptible: The growth of mycobacteria is inhibited, indicating drug susceptibility.
