Legionella Pneumophila Antigen Rapid Card Test
- Urinary Legionella Pneumophila Antigen
This test detects antigens from Legionella pneumophila, the bacterium responsible for Legionnaires' disease, in a urine sample.
It is used for rapid diagnosis of Legionnaires' disease, especially in patients with severe pneumonia, so that timely treatment can be initiated.
A urine sample is collected and tested using an immunochromatographic assay to identify the presence of bacterial antigens.
A positive result indicates current infection with Legionella pneumophila. A negative result may require confirmation with culture or PCR if clinical suspicion remains high.
No special preparation is needed. This is a non-invasive test with rapid turnaround time.
