BIOFIRE BLOOD CULTURE IDENTIFICATION (BCID)

A multiplex PCR test used to rapidly identify pathogens in positive blood cultures. It detects a wide range of bacteria, fungi, and other pathogens. This test aids in the rapid diagnosis of bloodstream infections and guides antibiotic treatment.

BIOFIRE BLOOD CULTURE IDENTIFICATION (BCID) Package in Nagpur Overview

What is BIOFIRE BIOFIRE Joint Infection (JI) panel test?

BIOFIRE BIOFIRE Joint Infection (JI) panel test is a rapid molecular diagnostic test used to detect pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes in synovial fluid (fluid from a joint) from patients with suspected joint infections. This PCR-based test can identify up to 39 pathogens (bacteria and fungi) and 8 antimicrobial resistance genes directly from synovial fluid samples in about 1 hour. The BIOFIRE BIOFIRE Joint Infection (JI) panel test is particularly useful for diagnosing Septic arthritis, Prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) and other acute joint infections.

Why consider BIOFIRE JOINT INFECTION PANEL test?

BIOFIRE BIOFIRE Joint Infection (JI) panel test can be considered for

  • Fast diagnosis
  • Broad pathogen coverage as it detects a wide range of bacteria (aerobic & anaerobic), yeast, and resistance markers
  • Accurate treatment guidance which allows clinicians to choose targeted antimicrobial therapy quickly
  • Better patient outcomes: Early identification helps prevent joint damage and complications
  • Useful when cultures fail: Can detect pathogens even if prior antibiotics have suppressed culture growth

Who should get tested for BIOFIRE JOINT INFECTION PANEL test?

BIOFIRE BIOFIRE Joint Infection (JI) panel test can be recommended for

  • Patients with suspected septic arthritis (sudden joint pain, swelling, redness, fever)
  • Individuals with prosthetic joint infections (e.g., after hip or knee replacement)
  • Patients with immunosuppression or underlying conditions (diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis)
  • When fast pathogen identification is needed to guide therapy
  • Cases where initial cultures are negative, but clinical suspicion remains high

More Information

OTHER NAMES: Joint Infection Panel, BIOFIRE JI Panel, FilmArray Joint Infection Panel, Rapid Synovial Fluid PCR Test, BIOFIRE Synovial Fluid Pathogen Panel

Joint infections, also known as septic arthritis, occur when microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, or viruses) invade the synovial fluid and joint tissues, leading to inflammation, pain, and often irreversible joint damage if not treated quickly.
