Asca Iga, Serum Test in Navi Mumbai Overview
What is the ASCA IgA Serum test?
The ASCA (Anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae Antibody) IgA serum test is used to detect antibodies against a component of yeast cells in the bloodstream. These antibodies are often associated with autoimmune disorders, particularly Crohn's disease.
Why is this test done?
This test helps in the differential diagnosis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), especially in distinguishing Crohn's disease from ulcerative colitis. It is also used as a supportive diagnostic tool in patients presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is drawn from the patient and analyzed in a laboratory to detect the presence of IgA antibodies against Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
What do the results mean?
A positive result suggests the presence of ASCA IgA antibodies, which is more commonly seen in patients with Crohn’s disease. A negative result does not rule out IBD but makes Crohn’s less likely. Results must be interpreted in the context of clinical findings.
Are there any precautions or preparations required?
No specific preparation is needed for this test.
