Factor VIII is a vital protein involved in the blood clotting process. Factor VIII acts as a cofactor for Factor IXa in the clotting cascade. It helps convert Factor X to Factor Xa, a critical step in the formation of thrombin, which then converts fibrinogen into fibrin to form a stable blood clot. It is produced in the liver and circulates in an inactive form. Upon injury, it becomes activated and binds to the surface of platelets, enhancing its role in the clotting process.
