This test detects Cryptococcus neoformans DNA using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to diagnose cryptococcal infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals.
Patients with HIV/AIDS, organ transplant recipients, or individuals with prolonged fever and neurological symptoms should undergo this test.
A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or blood sample is analyzed using PCR to identify Cryptococcus neoformans DNA.
Positive results confirm cryptococcal infection, requiring immediate antifungal treatment.
Antifungal therapy with amphotericin B and fluconazole should be initiated, and patient monitoring should be conducted closely.
