Frequently Asked Questions

The two-step oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is used to diagnose gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) through initial glucose screening and confirmatory OGTT.

This test is recommended for:

  • Pregnant women, usually between 24-28 weeks of gestation.
  • Women with risk factors such as obesity, family history of diabetes, or previous GDM.

  • Step 1: A 50g glucose load is administered, followed by blood sugar measurement after 1 hour.
  • Step 2: If glucose levels are high, a 3-hour 100g OGTT is performed to confirm GDM.

  • Abnormal Glucose Levels: Diagnosis of GDM.
  • Normal Glucose Levels: No evidence of GDM.

It ensures early detection and management of gestational diabetes, reducing maternal and fetal complications.
