- Chromium
- Creatinine Random Urine
- Chromium/creatinine Ratio
The Chromium Spot Urine test measures the concentration of chromium in urine. Chromium is an essential trace element involved in glucose metabolism but can also be a toxic heavy metal at high levels.
This test is used to assess chromium exposure in individuals working in industries like metallurgy, tanning, and stainless steel manufacturing. It is also performed to monitor chromium supplementation in patients with diabetes or metabolic disorders.
A single urine sample is collected in a sterile container and analyzed in the lab for chromium concentration, usually reported in micrograms per liter (µg/L).
Normal levels suggest appropriate chromium intake, while high levels may indicate excessive exposure or toxicity, which can cause kidney damage, skin allergies, or respiratory issues. Low levels may suggest chromium deficiency, which can impair glucose metabolism.
If high levels are detected, avoiding chromium exposure and medical intervention may be necessary. If levels are low, dietary adjustments or supplementation may be advised.
