Comprehensive Leukemia Panel Test in Patiala Overview

What is comprehensive leukemia panel test?

Comprehensive leukemia panel is a molecular diagnostic test that analyzes multiple genes known to be associated with different types of leukemia — both acute and chronic forms.
Comprehensive leukemia panel uses advanced methods such as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) to detect gene mutations, insertions, deletions, and translocations that play a role in leukemia development and progression. Comprehensive leukemia panel test provides a complete genetic profile of the leukemia, helping doctors understand the type, severity, and potential treatment options for the patient.

Why consider comprehensive leukemia panel test?

Comprehensive leukemia panel test is considered

  • To identify genetic mutations responsible for the onset and progression of leukemia.
  • To help in accurate diagnosis and classification of leukemia subtypes (e.g., AML, ALL, CML, CLL).
  • To guide targeted therapy and personalized treatment decisions.
  • To assess prognosis (the likely course and outcome of the disease).
  • To monitor treatment response or disease relapse.

Who should get tested for comprehensive leukemia panel test?

Comprehensive leukemia panel test is generally recommended for:

  • Patients suspected or newly diagnosed with leukemia.
  • Individuals with abnormal blood counts or bone marrow findings suggestive of leukemia.
  • Patients with relapsed or refractory leukemia, to explore new therapeutic targets.
  • Oncologists planning personalized or targeted treatment based on molecular findings.

Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. In simple terms, cancer is defined as the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. Cancer can develop anywhere in the body. In leukemia, this rapid, out-of-control growth of abnormal cells takes place in the bone marrow. These abnormal cells then spill into the bloodstream. Unlike other cancers, Leukemia generally doesn’t form into a mass (tumour) that can be seen in imaging tests, such as X-rays. Acute Leukemia occurs when a hematopoietic stem cell undergoes malignant transformation into primitive, undifferentiated cell with abnormal longevity. These lymphoid cells or myeloid cells proliferate abnormally, replacing normal marrow tissue and hematopoietic cells.
