Rubella Igg Antibodies

The Rubella IgG Antibodies, Serum test measures the levels of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against the rubella virus in the blood. Rubella (German measles) is a contagious viral infection that can cause serious birth defects if a pregnant woman is infected, especially in the first trimester. A positive IgG result typically indicates that a person has been vaccinated against rubella or previously infected and is immune to the virus.

This test is used to determine if a person has immunity to rubella, especially before pregnancy. Since rubella infection during pregnancy can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or birth defects such as congenital rubella syndrome, checking immunity before conception is essential. It may also be used for individuals who are planning to travel to areas with active rubella outbreaks or those who are unsure of their vaccination history.
