Fecal/stool Calprotectin

The Fecal Calprotectin test measures the level of calprotectin, a protein produced by white blood cells, in stool. High levels of calprotectin indicate inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.

• It helps in diagnosing and monitoring inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
• It helps distinguish IBD from other gastrointestinal conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which does not cause inflammation.

• Individuals with chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, or unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms such as blood in stool.
• Patients with a family history of IBD or other autoimmune diseases.

The test is non-invasive and helps assess disease activity in patients with existing IBD. High calprotectin levels are associated with inflammation, and this test is particularly useful for monitoring flare-ups in IBD.
