Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 IgG
Measures IgG antibodies against beta-2 glycoprotein, a marker linked to antiphospholipid syndrome. Elevated levels are associated with increased risk of blood clots and miscarriages.
Overview of Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 IgG in Shahjahanpur
About this test
Beta-2-Glycoprotein I (β2GPI) is a soluble blood protein. It has many proposed functions and roles within the body including the regulation of complement and haemostasis. Furthermore, it contains the main antigenic target of pathogenic autoantibodies found in patients with the autoimmune disorder antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).
APS is an autoimmune disorder in which autoantibodies cause thrombosis and/or recurrent miscarriage or other obstetric morbidity. Although these antibodies are generally termed antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL).
Antibodies of the IgG or IgM isotype to β2GPI is one of the criteria antibodies in APS diagnosis
Why consider this test?
Beta-2 glycoprotein 1 antibody tests are primarily used along with cardiolipin antibody and lupus anticoagulant testing to help diagnose:
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS)
The cause of an unexplained blood clot (thrombotic episode)
The cause of recurrent miscarriages in women
Sometimes the test may be used to determine whether you have developed these autoantibodies if you have another autoimmune disorder, such as lupus.
Who should get this test done?
Evaluation of patients with suspected antiphospholipid syndrome (APS)
First-line test when antiphospholipid syndrome is strongly suspected in conjunction with cardiolipin antibodies (IgG and IgM) and lupus anticoagulant testing
Estimating the risk of thrombosis and/or pregnancy-related morbidity in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
More information
Beta-2 glycoprotein 1 antibody is an autoantibody that is associated with inappropriate blood clotting. This test detects and measures beta-2 glycoprotein 1 IgG antibodies in the blood. Antiphospholipid antibodies interfere with the body's blood clotting process and increase the risk of developing inappropriate blood clots (thrombi) in both arteries and veins. Beta 2 glycoprotein antibodies are often elevated in rheumatic diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus.
APS is associated with a variety of clinical symptoms vascular thrombosis (arterial or venous in any organ or tissue) and pregnancy morbidity (unexplained fetal death, premature birth, severe preeclampsia, or placental insufficiency). Other clinical manifestations, including heart valve disease, livedo reticularis, thrombocytopenia, nephropathy, neurological symptoms.
