Estimated glomerular filtration rate evaluates kidney function. The kidney consists of tiny filters which are called glomeruli that remove waste material from the blood. The GFR test is an assessment of how well this filtration process is working.

Interpretation:

EGFR is a measure of the function of the kidneys. The GFR is a calculation based on a serum creatinine test. Creatinine is a muscle waste product that is filtered from the blood by the kidneys and excreted into urine at a relatively steady rate.
