Entamoeba histolytica IgG Antibody

This test detects antibodies against Entamoeba histolytica, the parasite responsible for amoebiasis, which can cause intestinal and liver infections.

It is used to diagnose extraintestinal amoebiasis, such as liver abscesses, and to differentiate Entamoeba histolytica infections from other gastrointestinal conditions.

A blood sample is analyzed using serological tests like ELISA or immunofluorescence to detect antibodies against E. histolytica.

A positive result indicates past or current infection, but further tests like stool examination or imaging may be needed for confirmation. A negative result suggests no significant exposure to the parasite.

Amoebiasis is treated with antiparasitic medications such as metronidazole or tinidazole. In severe cases, drainage of liver abscesses may be required.
