The AFB Susc SIREP panel tests for susceptibility of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) to first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs, including Streptomycin, Isoniazid, Rifampin, Ethambutol, and Pyrazinamide.
It is recommended for patients diagnosed with tuberculosis to determine the most effective drug regimen and detect drug resistance.
A sputum or other bodily fluid sample is cultured, and drug susceptibility is determined through MGIT (Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube) or other assays.
- Susceptible: Indicates that the bacteria can be effectively treated with the listed drugs.
- Resistant: Suggests that alternative medications are required to treat the infection.
