Factor V Level

This test identifies mutations in the Factor V gene, particularly the Factor V Leiden mutation, which increases the risk of developing abnormal blood clots (thrombophilia).

This test is recommended for:

• Individuals with a personal or family history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).
• Women considering hormonal birth control or hormone replacement therapy.
• Patients with recurrent miscarriages or unexplained pregnancy loss.

A blood sample is collected, and DNA analysis is conducted using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the Factor V Leiden mutation.

• Positive for Mutation: Presence of one or two copies of the mutation increases the risk of clot formation.
• Negative for Mutation: No mutation detected, suggesting normal clotting regulation.

It helps assess clotting risk, allowing for personalized preventive measures and treatment to reduce complications.
