Frequently Asked Questions

Test measures the levels of HS troponin I proteins in the blood. These proteins are released when the heart muscle has been damaged, such as occurs with a heart attack.

The troponin test may also be done to help detect and evaluate other causes of heart injury.

The most common reason to perform this test is to see if a heart attack has occurred. Your health care provider will order this test if you have chest pain or other signs of a heart attack.

Troponin I test is mainly used to:

  1. Confirm if a person is having a heart attack or recently had a heart attack.
  2. Diagnose and monitor unstable Chest Pain
  3. Check heart health after a surgery that could damage the heart

The high-sensitivity cardiac troponin test (hs-cTnT) is the latest generation of the cardiac enzyme testing that allows for detection of very low levels of troponin T, helping to diagnose heart attacks more quickly. If the test is negative, it can also help “rule out” heart damage from coronary artery disease.
