Anti AQP4 (NMO IgG) Antibody
Measures antibodies to aquaporin-4 in serum, a marker for neuromyelitis optica (NMO). Positive results indicate autoimmune damage to the spinal cord and optic nerves. This test is essential for diagnosing NMO and differentiating it from multiple sclerosis.

- Anti-aquaporin-4 (nmo-igg) Antibodies
- Specimen
- Initial Dilution
This test detects antibodies against aquaporin-4, a protein found in the central nervous system. It is primarily used to diagnose neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), a rare autoimmune condition affecting the optic nerves and spinal cord.
It is used to confirm a diagnosis of NMOSD and differentiate it from multiple sclerosis, which can have similar symptoms but requires different treatment approaches.
A blood sample is analyzed using a cell-based immunofluorescence assay or ELISA to detect anti-aquaporin-4 antibodies.
A positive result strongly supports the diagnosis of NMOSD. Negative results do not rule out the disease completely, especially in early stages.
No special preparation is required. The test can be performed alongside other neurological investigations.
