- Glycosaminoglycans, Urine
This test measures glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in the urine to screen for mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS), a group of metabolic disorders.
It helps diagnose inherited disorders where the body can't properly break down GAGs, leading to their accumulation in tissues.
A random or 24-hour urine sample is tested using colorimetric or chromatographic assays.
Elevated GAG levels suggest possible MPS. Additional confirmatory genetic or enzymatic tests may be required.
No special preparation is required.
