SARS Cov-2 Spike IgG Quantitative Abs Test in Vadodara Overview

Results of Anti-SARS-CoV-2 total antibody test

Positive test:

If you have a positive test result on a SARS-CoV-2 spike antibody test, it indicates presence of antibodies against receptor binding domain of S1 subunit of spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2 due to exposure of patients to a virus, either due to infection or vaccination.

Negative test:

A negative result on a SARS-CoV-2 spike antibody test means Absence or very low levels of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.

Frequently Asked Questions

Those who have previously been actively infected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (post 3-4 weeks) and do not currently have symptoms or have received a vaccine for COVID-19 (post 15 days).

Coronaviruses are a common group of viruses. Some viruses of Corona affect only animals whereas a few others can also affect humans. In humans, many coronaviruses are known to cause infections to respiratory system ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases E.g., Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The disease caused by the most recent Novel Coronavirus (nCoV) is called as Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and is declared as a pandemic by WHO.

Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system to fight infections like viruses and may help to ward off future occurrences by those same infections. Antibodies can take days or weeks to develop in the body following exposure to a SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection. Antibodies may be of IgM and IgG subtype. IgM antibodies are formed in the initial phase of the immune response and are present for a shorter duration of time. In the later phase, IgG antibodies are formed which stay in the bloodstream for around 6-8 months. This time is variable in different individuals.

These antibodies can be binding or neutralizing antibodies. The neutralizing antibodies attach to the spike region of the virus particles after infection and does not allow them to attack our cells, hence providing protection. These are also called as spike antibodies.

Viruses have two different types of proteins:

  • spike protein (S Protein)
  • Nucleo-capsid protein (N Protein)

The S protein is on the surface of the virus and the N protein is found inside the virus. Virus gains entry into human cells through its Spike Protein domain and hence most vaccines against coronaviruses are designed to target the spike protein.

This test is a robust quantitative test that identifies antibodies produced against SPIKE PROTEIN of the virus. It gives you exact measurement of the antibody titres available in your body against Spike Protein either post vaccination or post infection of COVID-19.
