JC VIRUS DNA QUANTITATIVE

This molecular test measures the amount of JC virus DNA present in blood or cerebrospinal fluid using quantitative PCR, aiding in the diagnosis of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML).

It is primarily used in immunocompromised individuals, particularly those with HIV/AIDS or those receiving immunosuppressive therapy, to detect JC virus infection and monitor disease progression.

A blood or cerebrospinal fluid sample is collected and tested using real-time PCR techniques for accurate quantification of JC viral DNA.

High levels of JC virus DNA are suggestive of active infection and may indicate PML. Low or undetectable levels suggest absence or remission of the virus.
