Frequently Asked Questions

The Red Kidney Beans Serum Test detects allergic reactions to red kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). It measures IgE antibodies, which indicate an immune response to the bean proteins.

Symptoms include hives, swelling, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, and, in severe cases, anaphylaxis.

The test is highly accurate in detecting IgE antibodies but may need confirmation through skin prick tests or food challenge tests.

Currently, no cure exists. Avoiding red kidney beans and carrying an Epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) for severe reactions is essential.
