Reticulocyte Profile

Reticulocyte count measures the number of reticulocytes (immature red blood cells) in a blood sample. These cells are produced in the bone marrow and released into the bloodstream when the body is responding to anemia or other blood disorders. The test uses an EDTA anticoagulant to prevent the blood from clotting and to preserve cell integrity.

Reticulocytes are an early form of red blood cells and their presence in the bloodstream indicates how well the bone marrow is functioning to produce new blood cells. Reticulocytes typically make up a small percentage of the total red blood cells but can increase significantly during periods of blood loss or anemia.
