KARYOTYPING REFLEX BCR-ABL (FISH)

This test evaluates chromosomal abnormalities, particularly presence of Philadelphia chromosome, i.e. t(9;22) associated with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) & ALL. In case the confirmation of this translocation (or its variants) is not possible by cytogenetic analysis, FISH for bcr/abl fusion gene is done to confirm the rearrangement at the molecular/gene level. This aids diagnosis and treatment for CML.
