More Information

OTHER NAMES:

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a cancer of plasma cells, which are a type of white blood cell that produce antibodies (immunoglobulins) to help fight infections. In multiple myeloma, abnormal plasma cells grow uncontrollably in the bone marrow and produce large amounts of monoclonal (M) protein, which doesn’t function like normal antibodies. This leads to organ damage and interference with the production of normal blood cells.
