Immunoglobulin Package in Vadodara Overview

What is Immunoglobulin Profile (IgG, IgM, IgA) test?

The Immunoglobulin Profile test measures the levels of the three major immunoglobulins (antibodies) in the blood:

  1. IgG – Provides long-term immunity and protects against bacterial and viral infections.
  2. IgM – The first antibody produced in response to infection, indicating recent or acute infection.
  3. IgA – Found in mucosal areas (respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts), protects against infections at these sites.

Immunoglobulin Profile helps assess immune system function and detect abnormal immunoglobulin production, which can occur in infections, immune deficiencies, or certain blood cancers like multiple myeloma.

Why consider Immunoglobulin Profile (IgG, IgM, IgA) test?

Immunoglobulin Profile should consider this test to:

  • Evaluate immune system function, especially in recurrent infections.
  • Detect abnormal antibody production seen in autoimmune disorders or plasma cell disorders.
  • Screen for or monitor multiple myeloma or other monoclonal gammopathies.
  • Assess response to immunizations or immune therapies.
  • Investigate chronic infections or unexplained immune deficiencies.

Who should get this Immunoglobulin Profile (IgG, IgM, IgA) test?

Immunoglobulin Profile test is recommended for:

  • Individuals with recurrent or unusual infections suggesting immune deficiency.
  • Patients with suspected plasma cell disorders such as multiple myeloma or MGUS.
  • People being evaluated for autoimmune disorders affecting antibody production.
  • Patients undergoing immune therapy or immunosuppressive treatment.
  • Individuals with abnormal protein levels detected in other blood tests.

OTHER NAMES: Serum Immunoglobulin Test, IgG/IgM/IgA Panel, Antibody Profile

Immunoglobulins (Ig), also known as antibodies, are glycoprotein molecules produced by plasma cells in response to antigens (foreign substances like bacteria, viruses, or toxins). They are a crucial part of the adaptive immune system, helping the body recognize and neutralize pathogens.
