SICKLE CELL PCR, EDTA BLOOD

This test uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect mutations in the HBB gene, which causes sickle cell anemia.

This test is recommended for:

• Newborns as part of genetic screening.
• Individuals with a family history of sickle cell disease.
• Couples planning pregnancy in high-risk populations.

A blood or buccal swab sample is analyzed using PCR to detect HBB gene mutations.

• Positive for Mutation: Confirms sickle cell anemia or carrier status.
• Negative Results: No evidence of sickle cell mutation.
