Protein Electrophoresis

Protein electrophoresis is a laboratory method used to separate proteins in the blood to identify abnormal levels or types of proteins, which can be indicative of certain diseases like multiple myeloma, chronic inflammation, or liver diseases.

• Diagnoses plasma cell disorders: Useful for detecting conditions like multiple myeloma or Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia.
• Monitors chronic conditions: Can assess the status of conditions like multiple myeloma, lymphoma, or chronic liver diseases.
• Identifies abnormal protein spikes: Unusual protein patterns may indicate kidney disease, immune system issues, or certain cancers.

• Individuals with unexplained weight loss, fatigue, or bone pain.
• People diagnosed with or suspected of having blood cancers (e.g., multiple myeloma or lymphoma).
• Those with signs of kidney disease or immune system disorders.

This test is typically used to identify monoclonal proteins (M proteins), which are abnormal proteins produced by cancerous plasma cells.
