The Creatine Kinase-MB (CK-MB) test measures levels of CK-MB, a heart-specific enzyme. It helps diagnose:
- Heart attacks (myocardial infarction)
- Heart muscle damage (myocarditis, cardiac arrest)
CK-MB levels rise within 3-6 hours, during a heart attack, peak at 12-24 hours, and return to normal range within 48-72 hours. A high level of CK-MB indicates recent cardiac injury.
A sample of blood is drawn from a vein and examined for CK-MB levels.

- Intense exercise or muscle injury
- Certain medications
- Chronic conditions like muscular dystrophy
