GCV RESISTANCE BY SEQUENCING
GCV Resistance By Sequencing tests for mutations in the CMV genome that cause resistance to ganciclovir (GCV), an antiviral drug. It is primarily used in patients with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. Identifying resistance mutations helps guide antiviral treatment.

- Gcv Resistance By Sequencing
This test detects resistance mutations to ganciclovir (GCV), an antiviral drug, by analyzing the UL97 and UL54 genes of cytomegalovirus (CMV). It helps assess whether a patient infected with CMV has developed resistance to GCV treatment.
It is primarily performed in immunocompromised individuals, such as transplant recipients or those with HIV/AIDS, who are undergoing CMV therapy. The test determines whether the virus has developed mutations rendering GCV ineffective.
A blood sample is collected, and viral DNA is extracted and sequenced to look for known mutations associated with resistance to ganciclovir.
Detection of resistance mutations implies that ganciclovir may no longer be effective, and alternative antiviral therapy should be considered. If no resistance is found, GCV treatment can be continued.
No special preparation is required. A standard blood draw is sufficient for analysis.
