Scrub Typhus IgM

The Scrub Typhus IgM, Serum test detects the presence of IgM antibodies against Orientia tsutsugamushi, the bacteria that cause scrub typhus. Scrub typhus is a disease transmitted through the bite of infected mites, typically in rural areas of Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Africa. The test detects early-stage infection as IgM antibodies are produced shortly after the initial infection.

This test is important for diagnosing scrub typhus in individuals with a history of exposure to areas where the disease is common, particularly if they present with symptoms such as fever, headache, rash, or eschar (a characteristic dark scab at the site of the mite bite). Scrub typhus can be diagnosed by detecting IgM antibodies using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or other serological tests. Early treatment with antibiotics, such as doxycycline, is effective in treating scrub typhus and preventing complications.
