This test measures dopamine levels in urine collected over 24 hours. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter involved in brain function and plays a role in neurological and endocrine disorders.
It is used to evaluate dopamine-related conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, pheochromocytoma (a rare adrenal gland tumor), and other neurological disorders. It can also help in diagnosing mood disorders and hormonal imbalances.
The patient collects all urine output over 24 hours in a specialized container. The sample is then analyzed using an ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) to measure dopamine levels.
Abnormal dopamine levels can indicate conditions such as Parkinson’s disease (low levels), pheochromocytoma, or other adrenal disorders (high levels). The results should be interpreted alongside clinical symptoms and other diagnostic tests.
