Estriol, Unconjugated

This test measures the level of unconjugated estriol, an estrogen produced during pregnancy by the placenta.

It is commonly used as part of the triple or quadruple screening in the second trimester to assess fetal health and detect chromosomal abnormalities like Down syndrome.

A maternal blood sample is collected and analyzed using immunoassays to determine estriol levels.

Low levels of unconjugated estriol may suggest an increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities or placental dysfunction. Further testing is often required.

No fasting is needed. Provide accurate gestational age for proper interpretation.
