Why consider this test?

This test gives a broad snapshot of adrenal androgen output, which can be genuinely helpful when someone’s symptoms point toward a hormone imbalance but the cause isn’t obvious yet. Higher than expected levels can suggest the adrenal glands are overactive, sometimes due to a tumor or hyperplasia, while lower levels might point toward adrenal insufficiency instead. It’s also been used historically as a supporting tool in diagnosing congenital adrenal hyperplasia, although more specific tests have largely taken over that role now. Because it captures combined output from multiple androgen sources at once, it works well as a first-pass screening test before moving to more targeted hormone panels.
