What is the AFB Susceptibility Kanamycin Test?

This test evaluates the susceptibility of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (AFB) to Kanamycin, an injectable second-line antibiotic used to treat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).


Who should get this test?

This test is recommended for:

Patients with confirmed MDR-TB infections.
Individuals who are not responding to first-line anti-TB drugs.
Patients undergoing treatment failure with standard TB regimens.



How is the test performed?

A sputum or other infected sample is cultured, and the isolate is exposed to Kanamycin to assess bacterial growth inhibition.


What do the results indicate?
