This test is recommended for:
- Patients with confirmed MDR-TB infections.
- Individuals who are not responding to first-line anti-TB drugs.
- Patients undergoing treatment failure with standard TB regimens.
A sputum or other infected sample is cultured, and the isolate is exposed to Kanamycin to assess bacterial growth inhibition.
- Susceptible: The infection may respond well to Kanamycin.
- Resistant: Kanamycin may be ineffective, requiring alternative treatment.
