NEISSERIA GONORRHOEAE DNA PCR

 This PCR test identifies the presence of genetic material from Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterium that causes gonorrhea—a common sexually transmitted infection (STI). It is a highly sensitive and specific method for detecting the infection in both men and women.

 Anyone experiencing symptoms like unusual genital discharge, painful urination, or pelvic pain—or those with a known exposure to gonorrhea—should consider this test. It’s also used for screening in high-risk individuals or during routine STI evaluations.

 Depending on the clinical need, a urine sample or a swab from the cervix, urethra, throat, or rectum is collected. The sample is then tested in the lab for bacterial DNA.

 A positive test confirms the presence of the infection, requiring antibiotic treatment. A negative result suggests that the bacterium is not present, though re-testing may be advised if recent exposure is suspected.

 Avoid urinating for at least one hour before providing a urine sample. No other specific preparation is required.
