C-MYC (8Q24) GENE REARRANGEMENT BY FISH, TISSUE

This test detects rearrangements in the C-MYC gene located on chromosome 8q24, which are commonly associated with certain cancers, including Burkitt lymphoma. It helps in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning for related malignancies.

Frequently Asked Questions

The C-MYC 8q24 Gene Arrangement test detects rearrangements involving the C-MYC gene on chromosome 8, which are often seen in Burkitt lymphoma and other aggressive B-cell lymphomas.

Patients with suspected or confirmed lymphoma, particularly Burkitt lymphoma or diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, should undergo this test.

A tissue or bone marrow sample is analyzed using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) or PCR to detect C-MYC gene rearrangements.

Positive results indicate the presence of a C-MYC gene rearrangement, which is associated with aggressive lymphomas and poor prognosis.

A positive result may necessitate intensive chemotherapy, targeted therapies, or bone marrow transplantation.
