Hepatitis Be Antibodies
- Hepatitis Be Antibodies
- Patient Value
The anti-HBe test detects antibodies against Hepatitis B e antigen or HBeAg. It is used to examine whether or not the individual with Hepatitis B has a less infectious phase.
- Positive anti-HBe: Signal of the immune system attacking the virus in infectivity may be low.
- Negative anti-HBe: Equal active Hepatitis B replication and therefore higher infectivity.
The doctor combines this test with the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and also viral DNA test for a complete diagnosis.
Under normal circumstances, no special preparation is required. However, fasting for a period ranging between 8 and 12 hours may be recommended if the test forms part of an extended liver panel.
The test of anti-HBe indicates only less infectivity, while the HBsAg test proves that the person has completely recovered from disease.
