Allergen - Horse Dander

Horse dander allergy is caused by proteins found in horse skin flakes, saliva, urine, and sweat. When inhaled, these proteins can trigger allergic reactions such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, coughing, and wheezing. Individuals with asthma may experience severe breathing difficulties. Skin contact can lead to hives or eczema flare-ups.

If avoiding horses is not an option, wearing protective gear such as a mask, gloves, and goggles can help reduce exposure. Frequent handwashing, changing clothes after handling horses, and using HEPA air filters at home can minimize airborne allergens.

Antihistamines, corticosteroid nasal sprays, and asthma inhalers can provide relief. Allergy shots (immunotherapy) may be an option for individuals with severe allergies.
