This test measures the level of inhibin-A, a hormone produced by the ovaries and placenta, which is often assessed during pregnancy.
It is part of prenatal screening for chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome and can also be used in ovarian cancer evaluation.
A blood sample is taken and analyzed using immunoassays to measure inhibin-A levels.
Abnormal levels during pregnancy may suggest increased risk of fetal abnormalities. High levels in non-pregnant women may warrant further evaluation for ovarian tumors.
No special preparation is needed. Provide accurate gestational age if pregnant.
